The blue Globi bird originated as a marketing device on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Swiss department store Globus. The advertising mascot became so popular, however, that Globi developed into an autonomous book and cult figure. Since the first picture book in 1935 a new book has come out every year, and in 1944 the Globi Verlag AG was founded. Since January 2007 Globi Verlag has belonged to the Orell Füssli Verlag (see description of Orell Füssli Verlag) of which it is an imprint. The palette of Globi books today includes the Globi Klassiker (Globi classic volumes), Globi Wissen (Globi knowledge), Globi Kochbücher (Globi cookbooks) and various other volumes. In addition, the programme features a whole series of non-book products; among these, the audio dramas are practically as successful as the books. In addition there exist diverse Globi free-time activities as well as various gastronomic concessions. Besides the Globi books, the press also publishes stories with the popular characters Papa Moll, Globine and Glöbeli.
